Hannah Arendt: Activist Commemorative

This commemorative box set consisted of a suitcase, book and dvd packaging
which expressed the life of political theorist Hannah Arendt, who was exiled
from her homeland, Germany because she was Jewish. I created an accordion
book to convey the idea of atrocities hidden in plain sight, with the exposed
and delicate structure of the spine. Interspersed throughout the book are
small glassine envelopes that hold tiny slips of quotes from Arendt's writings.
The suitcase was chosen as a container to symbolize her exile and losing
her homeland, with typewritten quotes on the exterior, which represent her
public identity.
